How to Set Up an Account to Receive Free Faxes
To receive a free fax, you’ll need to create an account through Fax.Live. You can also connect your Google account to Fax.Live, which will use your Google login credentials so you don’t have to remember another set of credentials.
Fax.Live does not charge for the free trial.

- Click Receive a Fax
In the Fax.Live portal, you’ll see options for sending and receiving faxes. The Fax.Live menu on the left-hand side of the screen has a button called Receive a Fax. To get started on setting up your fax number, click this button.

- Start your Free Trial
Fax.Live’s receive fax feature is premium, but you can try it out today with a 7-day free trial. You won’t be billed until your trial ends 7 days from starting it. You can cancel the plan any time during your free trial with no cost to you.

- Set up your Fax Number to receive a fax

Fax.Live will assign your account a Fax Number, which will replace the Receive a fax button on the left side of your screen in the main Fax.Live menu.
To receive a fax, give this number to the person sending you a fax. When they send a fax, they will simply enter this number into their machine, and they’ll be able to send their document just like any other fax.
- To find your received faxes, click the Inbox

The inbox is where you will find all the faxes that you’ve been sent. We automatically email you when you receive a fax. You’ll be able to see when your fax number received the fax, what number it came from, and whether or not the fax was successfully received. You’ll also have the option to download, print, or delete the fax under the Actions tab.
When you receive faxes in the future, you’ll see a notification in the Fax.Live menu, denoted with the circle with a number in it next to your inbox.
Quick Hits About Receiving Free Faxes
Do I need a fax machine to receive free faxes? No. A fax machine usually requires a landline phone connection to operate. But Fax.Live’s fax service is entirely digital, which means you can send and receive faxes with your Fax.Live account without a fax machine.
Do I need an email account to receive free faxes? Yes. If you want to receive faxes, you’ll need to set up a fax number with your Fax.Live account, which means you will need an email address to receive faxes. While you will be notified via email that you recently received a fax, the fax itself will be found in the inbox of your Fax.Live account.
How do people send me faxes? For the sender, sending a fax through your Fax.Live account will work the same way as if you had a fax machine. You will give them your Fax.Live fax number, and they’ll simply enter that number on their fax machine/service. They won’t have to do anything different!
Answering Questions About Free Fax Receiving Services
Is there a place near me where I can receive free faxes?
The quick answer is, probably not. In a separate post, we compiled a list of places where you may be able to fax locally, including office supply stores, banks and credit unions, libraries and shipping stores, but most of them charge a per-page fee. The closest place near you to fax may be from your computer or mobile device through Fax.Live, which is free to try.
Why do you ask for a credit card or payment method if it is free to try?
Asking for a credit card or payment method up front is standard practice, even for free trials. We ask for a payment method (1) to confirm you are a real person and filter out bots and fake accounts; (2) it helps prevent abuse, such as someone creating unlimited free accounts; and (3) it makes upgrading easier. Services start when the free trial ends, and you won’t be billed until the trial is over. You may cancel any time (see refund policy in our terms, #25).
How many faxes can I store in my Inbox?
A virtually unlimited amount! As long as your Fax.Live account is active, you can store all of your sent and received faxes online for access across any device that’s logged into your account.
If you receive a fax, it doesn’t matter if you’re at home, work or on the go. As long as you have an internet connection, it’s easy to log into your account and find all of your faxes.
